Marcia -- or anyone with a similar issue -- my advice would be to call an apiarist (a.k.a. bee keeper). The Boulder County Beekeepers’ Association (the link is in the post, above) was a big help to me, and I’m sure you’ll find someone near you with the expertise and equipment to help you.

Good luck!!

I have dead honey bees falling out of the seling on my porch. I didn't realize they were even there, they didn't buzz and I didn't notice any holes in the sealing until they started dropping out, what can be done about them?

Thank you for this information! I just got a shock when I found my purple sand cherry smothered in little green things. Panicking, I ran to check out Google and found your very useful information. Now I'll just sit back, relax, and wait for the ladybugs and lacewings. It's evening now, so I will have to wait until tomorrow.

Yep, a paper wasp (genus Polistes), although I can't verify the species. Another distinguishing characteristic is the next, which is exposed like in your picture - yellowjackets nest in the ground.

When the paper wasps are busy building their nests ALL OVER the eaves of my shed and my neighbor's house, I admit to knocking some of them down before the wasps lay eggs. Because otherwise there would just be too many of them exactly in places I must work (I take care of my neighbor's yard, too).

Since there are plenty of other spots quite nearby where they can nest, they just move 20 feet away and set up shop. They are quite docile, but clouds of them, since they will sting if agitated, would make pruning, etc., difficult.

I love these photos.
