I found this critter, or rather what’s left of it, in the lawn but placed it in the wheelbarrow for photographing. Looks like someone enjoyed a snack of the majority of its body. Wings are just over one inch long.

Nice website!!
Today I found en ENORMOUS black beetle! I was on my back patio. The total length its body was almost 2″ long and it has very skinny stick-like legs. I know it flys but I haven’t witnessed that yet. I think he’s on his last life. I gave him some organic greens and wheat to see what he feeds on and nothing perked his interest. Any ideas?
Gina, if you’re looking to identify your beetle, you might try What’s That Bug. You can find the link in my blogroll, to the right. If you’re looking to save your beetle’s life, I would also start by trying to identify it. Unfortunately, I don’t think that keeping a beetle alive is an easy feat, and I imagine it is already passed by the time I’m posting this reply.
